Herb Gardens in the UK

The Herb Society Herb Garden
Sulgrave Manor, PO Box 946, Northampton, NN3 0BN
Tel: 01295 768899, email: info@herbsociety.org.uk
There is a herb garden at Sulgrave Manor, the new home for the Herb Society, which was designed and created by The Society. On the website there is a Virtual Tour of the garden. A few mints are listed. I haven't seen it but the information is online.

RHS Herb Garden at Wisley
RHS Wisley Gardens, Wisley, Woking, Surrey, GU23 6QB
Tel: 0845 260 9000,
In previous years there was a dedicated, well-established, themed, herb garden (with many names). It has recently being changed and replanted. Unfortunately there is no information at all about it on their huge website. Fairly high entry charge to Wisley Gardens - see website. There used to be a few common and one uncommon mint, but I can't say what they have done in the changes. In recent years they have had a number of mints in large containers in the model Vegetable Garden area although there is no certainty they will continue this in future years. General plant sales area include some mints.
RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr, Rosemoor and Hyde Hall may also have herb gardens but there is no information online.

Yorkshire Lavender
Terrington, York, North Yorkshire, YO60 6PB, Tel: 01653 648008
On my visit a couple of years ago I saw large lavender garden displays (un-named), mixed herb and cottage garden plant beds (mostly un-named). A dedicated small mint display area of 35 plants, in small clay pots sunk in gravel bed labeled with common names. The plants were a bit too young at the "Mint Weekend", but should be much more worth seeing by now if they have continued with the project. Some pictures of the gardens, but no specific information online. There is no charge to walk around the gardens. Herb plants for sale including mints.

The Herb Nursery
Thistleton, near Oakham, Rutland, LE15 7RE, Tel: 01572 767658, Email herbnursery@southwitham.net
Many display beds of many herbs, very well labeled, including a nice thyme bed, all around the nursery sales area, all season. The mints are on display in 10 litre pots, so are good size plants and show you what all the small plant you might buy could look like. An Open Weekend in June when other additional gardens areas with more herbs, including lavenders, rosemaries and oreganums, the rest of the nursery and woodlands are open to the public, for a voluntary donation. Herb plants fro sale.

The National Herb Centre
Banbury Road, Warmington, near Banbury, Warwickshire, OX17 1DF
Tel: 01295 690999
They say there are six themed herb gardens, and so there should be plenty to see, but I have no idea how many mints. Free admission. Herb plants for sale.

The Herb Garden (Plant Nursery)
Chesterfield Road, Hardstoft, Pilsley, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, S45 8AH
Tel: 01246 854268
A well established parterre herb garden with herbaceous borders, a lavender garden and a Physic garden with well labeled plants. I don't know if there are any mints present. Herb plants for sale

Coton Manor Herb Garden
Coton Manor, Coton, Northampton, NN6 8RQ
Tel: 01604 740219,
It appears that the herb garden is laid out as a parterre, which means the emphasis is on design more than herb plant numbers. Plants for sale, but only three mints listed.

Garden Organic (HDRA)
Ryton-on-Dunsmore, near Coventry,
Haven't seen it for a long time, but there was quite a good size herb garden, with a small number of mints present. There will be other herbs dotted around the many other gardens as well. Entrance charge to the Gardens - see website for current rates - free to RHS members. Small general plant sales area.

Gunby Hall Herb Garden
Gunby Hall, Gunby, Spilsby, Lincolnshire, PE23 5SS
Tel: 01526 342543

Mawley Hall Herb Garden
Mawley Hall, Cleobury Mortimer, Worcestershire, DY14 8PN
Tel: 02082 980429, email: administration@mawley.com

Llanerchaeron
Ciliau Aeron, near Aberaeron, Ceredigion, SA48 8DG
Tel: 01545 570200, email: llanerchaeron@nationaltrust.org.uk,  website: www.nationtrust.org.uk/Llanerchaeron
An 18th Century Welsh gentry estate with house, walled gardens and home farm, now owned by the National Trust. The current herb garden was created in 1990 in the northwest area of the east walled garden, comprising of 25 wooden edged beds of culinary, medicinal and dye plants. They have 8 types of mint.

The National Trust, Llanerchaeron

Acorn Bank
Temple Sowerby, near Penrith, Cumbria, CA10 1SP
Tel: 01768 361893, email: acornbank@nationaltrust.org.uk
This National Trust property is "best known for its comprehensive herb collection and traditional fruit orchards, Acorn Bank is a tranquil haven with a fascinating industrial past". however the website makes no other mention of the website in words or pictures, so I suppose we are to go on the reputation, and a mention in Wikipedia that says they have 250 medicinal and culinary herbs.

There will be others worth seeing, especially in some Herb Farms, that I do not know of so send me the info and I will add it.
